Here’s your 2-hour lump of new underground metal for this week. And when I say underground, I really do mean it; this stuff is dug up from some awfully obscure parts of the metal world at large. Said parts including the likes of the US, Spain, Germany, Italy, Chile, Finland, Iceland, Canada, UK, France, Hungary, and Australia.
Hope everyone got some good headbanging in with last week’s twenty-episode round-up, I like doing those extra sized ones. Which is why the new show length is a regular two hours, up from a measly one. Double the time = double the new underground heavy fucking metal to play.
If you caught episode 20 of this little heavy metal podcast, you’ll remember I tried out an extended recap format where I picked some of my favorite tracks of the first twenty episodes. Well, we’re twenty deep again with episode 40, so this week is another 2-hour compilation of my top picks since then.
Nothing will warm you up in these frigid days like some good ol’ brutal heavy metal. And this week is pretty brutal too, not much clean material and when it does show up it definitely keeps the right mood going. This batch of heaviness comes from the US, Ukraine, Sweden, Netherlands, Brazil, Switzerland, Spain, Finland, and France.
One of the web’s few music-only shows for new heavy metal (it’s true, look it up) took the holiday weekend off, so metal Christmas is coming late kids. And Satan’s version of Santa really does get around the world because this week’s music is coming from the US, Finland, El Salvador, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, France, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Another year means another rundown of what the calendar offered. 2016 was a good year (I also don’t believe in ‘bad’ years though…) with a lot of new faces in the scene. It was especially good for progenitors of doom and gloom, with many albums of that flavor making up this year’s list.
This week’s episode is equal parts black, death, and doom/stoner with a little curve ball from Brazil thrown in for good measure. Other bands hail from Poland, USA, Iran, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, and the UK. You can see all the pretty cover art for all this music below, along with links to the band’s music, website, social media, etc. This is all new music as usual, so go ahead and get inspired to ruin your wallet on Bandcamp.
Back in the early days of this site’s music-only podcast (ie. ten months ago) the very first song played on the very first episode was a furious, crushing, and epic track from a French band by the name of In Shadows and Dust. It came off their debut, a great album of melodic blackened death metal, and the band is ready to build on that foundation with Messe Noire, their sophomore release on Dec. 21st
New week, new dose of underground metal from around the globe. And when I say underground, I really do mean it, AMP only plays unsigned or small-label bands (so if you’re in one, go ahead and let me know). Said bands on this episode hail from the US, Poland, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, Australia, Paraguay, and Germany. Now crank it up!
In the coldness of winter, a trick for raising body heat is to headbang to heavy metal. True story, it’s why so much metal comes out of Scandinavia; there’s a constant demand for fresh neck wrecking music. Good thing this episode has some Swedish representatives in it, along with Russia, Germany, USA, Australia, and Finland. Cruise through the playlist for cover art and links to all the bands played.
This week’s episode has a nice, heavy arc from hardcore to modern melo-death, to doom and death, and finally finishing off on a blackened note from bands hailing from the US, Germany, Chile, China, Hungary, Finland, Sweden, and Canada. As usual, all the music played is new within the past 2 or 3 months, so use the playlist to check out the bands’ new releases and merch.
